The college was established in 1984 by a group of socially oriented people with an intention to promote women education in the tribal dominated educationally backward areas of kaptipapda sub-division of the district of Mayurbhanj.It was a noble initiative to spread the message of empowerment through education among the women folk in the Kaptipada sub-division. It had a shaky start with no land and funds of its own. A College committee comprising active, enthusiastic persons of status- in the locality under entrusted with the task of raising funds and meeting other requisite needs for starting a college was formed in the same year. The opening of the degree wing in 1991 was a giant step forward to offer higher education to women with the assurance to maintain the tradition, spirit, and culture of the area and to create a new vibrancy in the area of higher Education.During these 34 years, growth of the institution has been enormous. The college developed extensively and earned the admiration of the public.
